Blind Donkeys, a Self-Portrait, and Salsa Party

This fancy archway next to City Hall (just off Burg Square) crosses an alleyway called Blinde-Ezelstraat, the site of this us-ie (versus a selfie). The street's name means "Blind Donkey Street."

Fishermen coming from the North Sea, which is just twelve miles away, led their fish-carrying donkeys through the narrow medieval streets and next to and over the canals on the way to the city's fish market. Perhaps they stopped here so the donkeys' owners could put blinders on them. Otherwise, the donkeys wouldn't cross the water between the old city and the fish market.

On some days, the fresh catch is still sold here at the fish market; locals really love the shrimp. On other days, it's a souvenir market. But when Sam and I walked by on Friday night after the harp concert, there was a DJ and a loud dance party happening. Very fun!
