'Bye Bruges!!

We had our last breakfast by the fireplace in the cute Bruges' hotel this morning. I loved this breakfast most of all--those cherries which I added to the granola and yogurt. Yummm.

We really liked it here at the Hotel Adornes. Our room was at the top on the left (cream-colored part of the building), from which we could look down onto the canal. And not only could we see the swans (and hear them) every morning, we could gaze out the bathroom window (around the corner on the left) to get another view.

The roots of the Adornes' family in Bruges reaches back to at least the 15th century. Anselm Adornes (1424-1483) was a wealthy cloth merchant with international connections and built the Jerusalem chapel in the city. I have no reason to believe or information to confirm that this house was linked to any of his descendants. They probably just named the hotel after this famous Bruges' family.

And look, Sam is waving at us!!

But now it's time to leave for Delft. The daily schedule says we'll be driving a lot today so the bus was picking us up at 8:00 AM for the early morning drive out of the city. It's amazing how well Dirk maneuvers his way through the narrow streets, along with many kids with new backpacks and parents on their bikes today (Monday), heading to their first day of the new school year.

On our way to Delft, we'll be learning about flood management and stopping at some important sites along the way. Hilbren labeled this day, "Challenging the Sea." Look! Our carriage arrives. Good bye, Bruges!!
